Bag Materials & Designs
Needle-Felt Bags
Most common in pulse-jet filters. Batts of short fibers are interlocked onto a woven scrim (or scrimless with fiber-supported designs). Scrimless bags use all fibers for filtration, are stronger, more flexible, and generally more economical.
Woven Bags
Typically used in shaker or reverse-air filters with gentler cleaning. Less efficient than felted fabrics. Fiberglass is common but fragile; it requires reduced air pressure and special cages when used in pulse-jet filters.
How Filtration Works
As dust-laden air passes through the bag, particulates are trapped in the fiber mat. Efficiency increases once a dust cake forms, and filtration is primarily performed by the cake itself. Fine-denier fibers improve small particle collection by providing more surface area.

Glazing
Heat/pressure smooths fibers for sanitary or sticky dust applications.
Singeing
Outer strands are burned off to prevent dust buildup. Can reduce efficiency.
Static Dissipating
Grounding wires or conductive fibers prevent static buildup and explosion risk.
Oleophobic
Repels water/oil for sticky or wet dusts; adds chemical resistance.
Siliconizing
Improves cake release in moist applications; not suitable for food collection.
PTFE Laminate
High-performance membrane (0.08–0.5 micron pores) transforms bags into surface filters with near-zero emissions. Low pressure drop, high efficiency, But requires careful handling and should not be used with hydrocarbons.
